Founded in 1949 as a fishermen's collective in Salacgrīva, on Latvia's northern coast where the Salaca River meets the Gulf of Riga, by decree of the Soviet Ministry of Fish Industry. Became a joint stock company in 1992 after Latvian independence. One of the largest and most financially stable fish processors in the Baltics, exporting more than 100 canned fish varieties to 40 countries. Holder of the Rīgas Šprotes trademark. Produces premium sprats including the historic Tsar Sprat line, introduced in 1905, as well as the first Latvian figural cans.
