The primary sardine brand of the Stinson Seafood plant in Prospect Harbor, Maine, the last sardine cannery in the United States, which closed in April 2010 after 135 years of continuous operation. Stinson was acquired by Bumble Bee in 2000 and the Beach Cliff brand continues under Bumble Bee ownership. The plant's billboard-sized sign of a fisherman holding a Beach Cliff can was a landmark of Downeast Maine. Sardines were packed from Atlantic herring, the species that sustained Maine's entire cannery industry.
