Conserveira de Lisboa

Founded in 1930 in the Baixa district, where it still operates from the same original space, Conserveira de Lisboa is less a cannery than an institution. The shelves carry their three labels, Tricana, Prata do Mar, and Minor, and the women behind the counter still hand-wrap tins as they did in the 1940s. The tuna comes from the Azores, the sardines from Matosinhos, and nothing about the shop has changed in a way that matters.
