Alaska
Wild Alaskan salmon is among the most sustainably managed fisheries on earth, and Alaska's canneries have been operating continuously since the Gold Rush era. Bristol Bay sockeye, Copper River king salmon, and pink salmon from Alaska's vast coastline supply both mass-market production and a growing artisan sector. The state manages its salmon fisheries under a constitutional mandate to sustain the resource, a framework that has kept Alaskan salmon stocks healthy while fisheries elsewhere have collapsed. Brands including Wildfish Cannery, Taku Store, Vital Choice, and Salmon Market source directly from Alaskan fishing families. Beyond salmon, Alaska produces Dungeness crab, king crab, halibut, sablefish, and Pacific cod from some of the world's cleanest and most carefully managed waters.
